My Journey

My name is Barbara Larsen. I am a Certified Professional Life Coach with emphasis in Balancing Life through improving Life Skills, having successful Recovery, and overcoming Domestic Violence.

Like so many others, my life consists of colorful journeys. Although some have been challenging, they have all been rewarding learning experiences.

During my younger years, I was victimized and survived Domestic Violence in all its forms. Surviving a childhood with an abusive, alcoholic father and a co-dependent mother, I’ve had to deal with self-esteem and relationship issues throughout my life. I’ve also known addiction in many facets of my life related to family, friends, co-workers, clients, and children, as well as myself. I have gone through “Empty Nest Syndrome” with my child as well as my grandson. However, throughout all the challenges, I’ve struggled, self taught, and learned how to improve my life skills, as well as what is required to live a balanced life. Learning how to love myself after all the dark days has been a challenge in itself; and finding my inner strength took many years; however, it is definitely more comforting than remaining a victim and living in the darkness and negativity.

Besides being a Domestic Violence and Life Skills instructor, I have experience as an Intake Counselor, Employment Counselor, and Case Manager.  I’ve provided clients with the knowledge to build skills, make and keep goals, and live successful lives. Doing so, has given me the knowledge to help myself and know in my heart that assisting others to succeed has helped me find reward and fulfillment.  I’ve discovered what I always knew…that helping others is who I am!

I have a degree in “Business Management”; over 20 years experience teaching Life Skills classes (Self Esteem, Self-Awareness, Anger Management, and Domestic Violence); over 8 years experience as an Employment Counselor and a Case Manager; I received my Professional Coach certification through IAPRC with focus in Recovery; and I have a master's degree in “Life” from the University of Hard Knocks
